Cheryl, the Composer

It was a mutual friend who suggested that Cheryl would make great music for Heart of a Gopi.  Cheryl's composing is very much like Godwriting™ except it is Godcomposing.

It has to be that all the great creativity in the world is really God's.

I love it that when Samuel Morse invented the teletype and sent his very first message -- he didn't say: "Look at my great invention!"

No, he teletyped: "What hath God wrought?" Isn't that more like it?

So here's what Cheryl wrote about Heart of a Gopi:

After 25 years of practicing and teaching law and years of classical study of piano, jazz improvisation, and choral singing and directing and a few years in near isolation, I began receiving music from the spheres. Some days songs seemed to arise from the dandelions, other times from the stars, or from the sacred energies within a writer’s creation.

The Heart of a Gopi is a gem of a story. Contemporary issues of power, class, sex, in-laws, betrayal, jealousy, and fall from grace, not unique to our times, find their place in this timeless tale.

I was delighted when Gloria asked me to consider composing the music for a musical rendition of Heart of a Gopi.  The music for it is flowing easily – along with some humanly editing.

The delightful gopi milkmaids point to the power of the feminine, through invoking and being innocence, pleasure, playfulness, delight and awakening. I am reminded, as I share in this adventure, that I am a gopi, too.

In the modern world, the call for the ego’s true surrender to universal love is just beginning. The supporters and producers of Heart of a Gopi have a wonderful opportunity to speed the process.

Kudos to Santhan for the vision, Gloria, for the tight clear script, and to all others who sprinkle the gift of universal love around the globe through the production of this musical. I am grateful to be on the journey with you.

Not only has Cheryl so far composed twenty-five songs -- and more to go -- she has been a consultant supreme.  The script and lyrics are way better because of Cheryl's keen eye. I should also add because of Santhan's, Pablo's, and Margaret's contributions as well, but this blog entry today is featuring Cheryl, my Gopi buddy.
