Did you ever lose an email?
I have heard of famous authors' losing their entire novels, and then sitting down and writing them all over again. I don't know how they do that. First of all, I would be weeping. And then I wouldn't have the stamina of heart to write it all over again.
A couple of days ago I wrote a brilliant amusing clever email, and today I thought I would show it off on the blog -- impress everyone with how witty I am.
Not only am I not able to find my email, I cannot even find the email I responded to. What happened here? Did I make this all up? Did I dream it? I don't think so. But where did it go, and what does it mean?
This is mighty peculiar. I don't delete any emails so quickly.
Alas, the greatest email I ever wrote has been lost to posterity.
Was it just not meant to be?
Then I looked again just now, and I found it. Really, I didn't know I would find it. It was totally entitled something else.
And do you know what? There was no Eureka after I read it over. It wasn't as great as I thought. In fact, this email was better left lost. What a disappointment. How embarrassing. What is worse than trying to be funny when it just doesn't work? I suppose sending it is worse. Finding it again is worse.
But I will undoubtedly get over this and, alas, write other emails just as witless.
