Driftless

Good book. Great book. Driftless. Such amazing down-to-earth characters. Such a town. Superb writing that gets into your heart.
And this story, unlike some of the others I have read lately, is real, truthful, and uplifting. Uplifting!
Heaven Admin asked recently on the forum how we would define spirituality. I realize something as I am writing this blog entry. If I were to tell you that this book is spiritual, there may be a connotation to the word that could make you wince. Am I right? As I say spiritual, do you think "blissy" and "goody-goody" and roll your eyes? We've all heard it before.
This book is not blissy or goody-goody. It simply has a lot of God wisdom in it. It is not an ordinary book. It is extraordinary. Forget I mentioned the world spiritual.
It is interesting about the author, David Rhodes. The last book he wrote was thirty years ago! It is as if he had been in the desert for thirty years! It took him ten years to write this book! That was ten years well-spent.
Here are some of the chapter titles -- I love them!
No Reason
Scheduled Violence
Mottled Sunlight
Perpetual Perishing
A Private Heaven
The Meaning of Truth
The Thief
The Universal Acorn
Making Bail
Trapped by the Past
Lawyers
Making Other Arrangements
Resemblance
I was raised on books. I mean, books raised me. Big influence on me. They gave me what to aim for. They gave me more than ordinary life did. I cannot imagine how I might have turned out without the inspiration of books.
This is a good one.
Sally, read this book and report on it here!

Hi GG
I'm down in the laundry room where I can get a wi'fi connection. Makes laundry more fun. I'm currently reading James A. Michener's autobiography and it's pretty good. I checked our library's on-line catalog and find they have Driftless! How fun is that! So I'll read it next. I like it when you keep me supplied with titles.
Love, from Sally
Well, I finished it last week. You are right GG. It is not an ordinary book. In fact it is a book that is very hard to describe. I think it is spiritual because of the depth of it's characters. Everyone and everything in the book comes to life with crystal clarity giving a profoundness to the mundane. Randy started reading it yesterday and hopefully he will give his book report next week.
Love from Sally
Hi, Sally! I think you have described the book beautifully. The characters! Profoundness in the mundane.
Worth reading, isn't it?
Looking forward to what Randy has to say.
Bless you for being so responsive, Sally.
Love, Gloria
