Heavy Metal Music
Lance King is my heavy metal friend and one of the most spiritual people I know! I love the juxtaposition that Lance made possible for me! By juxtaposition, I mean that, although I had had no personal experience with heavy metal music or musicians, that didn’t stop me from having a strong opinion. The minute I met a real live heavy metal person, my eyes and heart opened, and my opinion happily juxtaposed itself.
I want to apologize to every heavy metal person in the world for my being so blind.
I don’t even know where I got my ideas from, but I had dismissed heavy metal music people from the realm of spirituality. It’s like my mind tossed them into a pile called Definitely Not Spiritual. Actually not even that, for it hadn’t crossed my mind that there could be spiritual heavy metal musicians and fans, so I couldn’t even toss them. Honestly, you’d think I’d never written down or read a Heavenletter or ever heard about letting go of the past and all the nonsense accrued there.
If I have other prejudices within me, I ask God to send me more beautiful people like Lance to free me from them.
I met Lance, vocalist and the owner of Nightmare Records, on the internet because Darlene, a long-time Heavenreader, sent Lance a couple of Heavenletters. He ate them up, and immediately posted them on his blog for all his many fans to read! http://www.myspace.com/lancekingvox Right away, there were about 23 responses from his readership.
The day Heavenletter #2636, God the Light, came out, Lance sent a magnificent response, a response so human and divine and powerful that it left me dumbfounded. I’m going to use his email as a guest entry on this blog, probably tomorrow.
Meanwhile, here’s an excerpt of what Lance wrote when I asked him for his okay to use his email as a guest entry:
I find when I respond to God’s words, my words are so much more meaningful,
Heavenletters must put me into a more focused connection with the Source and with my own feelings. I will post this on the forum as soon as I can. I would like to post this everywhere if it will help people.
The consciousness of Heavenreaders constantly has me in awe. I believe Heavenreaders are the leaders and pioneers of the new world.

I'm with you on this Senora.
Oh Gloria - I love these posts about Lance, the Spritual Heavy Metal Musician, because two of my three sons are in their own heavy metal band together and have been for several years. It's been simultaneously a source of pride and embarrassment - I've had several of my own "juxtaposition" experiences along the way. My sons, Ryan and Branden, do not consider themselves to be spiritual, but from infancy they have shown themselves to be deeply intuitive and spiritual. I get a big kick out of the heavy metal magazine photos of their band, Misery Signals (boy do I and my ego have issues with their name!) because they're always posed to look so rough and tough. These are five of the kindest, sincerest guys you'd ever want to meet. Right now they are in the studio in Vancouver recording their 3rd CD. I'm looking forward to reading Lance's quest entry. Who knows? Maybe I'll be sending it on to a couple of rockers in Vancouver.
"God gave us music that we might pray without words."
Jo, doesn't God teach us again and again not to go by appearances!!! Yes, Lance, the Spiritual Heavy Metal Musician. And, yes, Ryan and Branden, the Spiritual Misery Signals! This must be so because of Who their mother is.
Just you wait, dear Jo.
How your story made me smile!
Now Lance's guest entry is up. He didn't write this as a guest entry. He wrote it as one heart expressing a great ray of itself.
P.S. It seems like heavy metal musicians may have to burst through a cloud of ignorance over them in order to be seen as individuals. Heavy Metal may be an emblem for all the peoples of the world who have been stereotyped. Apparently, prejudice and judgment in the world have led to persecution. Heavy metal gives us such a light-hearted demonstration of the folly of stereotypes.
Incidentally, every time I try to type Heavy as in Heavy Metal I type Heaven! :)
I love what you are saying about Heavy Metal giving us "such a light-hearted view of the folly of stereotypes." This rings so very true! Now I must read Lance's post before I say anything else. Bless you Gloria and your beautiful heart.
You know, Jo, there was another word I was looking for when I wrote stereotype, and I discovered it as I read your comment. The word is minority.
Heavy metal music is a minority. I'm afraid minorities have not always been welcomed with open arms and didn't get to be really known.
And what about your big beautiful heart, Jo!
