Kombucha Tea

Do you ever keep making the same mistake over and over again simply because you don't think -- at least don't think until after you already made the mistake?

Well, I did it again.

Here's what it's about:

My body is very sensitive to coffee and tea. I don't even drink coffee any more because I get wired, and it lasts all day. I get so wired I'm a dynamo of nervous energy. I'm like a kid with ADD.

Herb teas I will have, of course, and once in a while a little regular tea at a Chinese lunch buffet. I love tea out of those cute little cups. [Heaven Admin, I want you to know that I have already parted with the ten or twelve darling little cups I had and never drank from.]

Now, there is Kombucha tea, which is very healthy. It's a fermented tea. Heaven Admin makes it, and I used to. To make this tea, you use real tea and also a specific culture that is called a mushroom, although it is not a mushroom at all. I stopped making this tea because making it requires some keeping track and knowing when you started it, and it takes a week or so, and I just have too much on my mind.

Anyway, a dear friend of mine, Marie, makes it, and I can get it from her. She makes Kombucha with elderberries in it. This is my very favorite. There is something about the flavor of elderberries that I just love.

Now that Lauren is in Chicago, I don't have the use of a car. Today another friend, Dianita -- called Dianita because she once had an adventure in Guatemala -- went to Marie's to pick up two quarts of elderberry Kombucha for me. Perhaps you remember Dianita from The Singing Bowls blog entry. http://www.godwriting.org/godwriting/dianita-and-the-singing-bowls-chakr...

As I said, I just love the elderberry Kombucha. Without thinking, I sipped it all day, and then after a light supper, I kept drinking it. I kept drinking and not thinking. At about 1 a.m. when I still couldn't fall asleep, I remembered I had had quite a bit of Kombucha and that I can't fall asleep when I drink Kombucha after 12 noon. It is about 2 a.m. now, and I decided to come downstairs and tell you all about why I couldn't sleep.

I have so much Kombucha energy right now I could shovel snow, build a house, run a race, lift a barge, swim an ocean. Tomorrow, when I need to be awake, undoubtedly I'll be groggy-eyed and low-key.

Do you ever forget and make a mistake of some kind again and again and again?

Pretty funny. I guess you are over the cold by now....

The cough likes me and doesn't want to leave. However, the cough let me sleep five hours straight last night which is something of a record even without a cough. I am mucho better.

dear wired,

How nice of you not to mention that you had to add the elderberries as I forgot to look for it and just got you the plain Kombucha.

Hey, Dianita, what is that next to your going to the trouble to go to Marie's for me? You went and picked up the Kombucha for me before you went to work and then you delivered on your lunch hour! What a boon to me. Who else would have done that for me, I wonder.

Actually, Marie might not have had elderberry kombucha, and I would have wanted you to bring me the plain! I have elderberries for that very reason. So you were perfect.

Do you have any Rooibos left? Rooibos Kombucha is wireless.

Si, I do have Rooibos left.

I have been making milk kefir and ginger water kefir and seem to be unable to manage the added logistics of Kombucha as well. So many things to remember!
