It’s ironic, isn’t it, that I waited until recently to check out other blogs!

It was then, and only then, that I discovered that other blogs – at least the ones I looked at – properly stick to one subject and are serious about it. They don’t reveal personal difficulties with the computer etc. As written in Checking Out Other Blogs, I started to wonder whether this Godwriting blog should stick to the spiritual and leave out the personal.

Paula, who translates Heavenletters into Italian every day, posted a comment in response that has really helped me to resolve the future of this very Godwriting blog!

In fact, Paula inspired this blog entry I’m writing now. This is Pauila's delightful, most supportive response:

As I understand it, Godwriting is about bringing Heaven to Earth, so if you leave Earth out of it, then where do you bring Heaven? I mean that, in my opinion, this blog serves exactly to merge the earthly life with the heavenly, so that they become One.

Now I would like to tell you a startling discovery I made soon after Paula’s comment!

You may remember I am reading over the Heavenletters from 1999 and putting titles on them which I initially had never thought to do. You may or may not know that, in the early days, Heavenletters were primarily my own personal Godwriting, some of which I can't imagine I actually sent out.

So here’s an excerpt from the published April 5, 1999 Heavenletter, now entitled A Vaster Vision. This one isn't one of the really embarrassing ones.

I take a few liberties with changing my words for the sake of clarity.

Here was my question to God:

Dear God, I saw Victor Hugo's Les Miserables starring Liam Neeson last night. The Bishop was You in action. It was beautiful. Jean Valjean broke into the Bishops's residence and stole the Bishop’s silver. Instead of accusing Jean Valjean and having him arrested, the Bishop protected Jean Valjean. When the police discovered Jean Valjean with the stolen silver and took the thief to the Bishop’s home, the Bishop told the police that Jean Valjean had not stolen the silver, that he, the Bishop, had given his silver to Jean Valjean.

Like You, God, the Bishop didn’t take offense. He saw from such a bigger perspective, and, therefore, could be so giving and kind. The Bishop’s goodness and generosity changed Jean Valjean’s life. And then who knows how many other lives the Bishop changed through the good Jean Valjean was able to do after.

Now we come to the second thing about the Bishop’s action that was on my mind on April 5, 1999. Oh, I forgot to tell you, dear readers, that back in those days , the Heavenletter I wrote went out that same morning! There was no delay as there is now:

Dear God, the standard rule would be to never tell a lie. The Bishop lied. He said he had given the silver to Jean Valjean. Of course, he made the lie come true by giving Jean Valjean the silverware he had taken and also stuffing additional candlesticks into Jean's bag. It has to be that the Bishop's lie was right action. My friend Karla is adamant that it is always wrong to lie. Her whole perspective is so different from mine. And she has no doubt about it.

But human perception is infinitesimal. We can't judge. You, God, on the other hand, are beyond perception. You KNOW.

Certainly the Bishop's lie bore heavenly fruit. But it is not always so clear to the world — and me — what is good and right and what is not. But to my friend, Karla, it seems to be clear. She is certain that certain things can never be right. But how do we know that a particular certified wrong action is wrong for a particular individual in a particular circumstance? There are many paths to You, dear Father.

I suppose you would like to read God’s answer. It was very short. God said:

And you be concerned with your path, and leave your friend to hers.

Wisely, I made no response and went on to something else.

My discovery was that the early Heavenletters, in many cases, were as much or more blogging as they were Godwriting! Thank goodness God could get a word in edgewise. :)

Since I wouldn’t know how to change anyway, I have decided to continue this blog as it is.

Thank you, Paula!

You're welcome!

Continue this way, by all means, Gloria! I second to Paula's advice.

While reading this one, I wondered too: didn't the Bishop lie to save Jean Valjean? We were taught, not to lie. Was this a justifiable lie?

I have to chuckle at the short and to the point answer of God.

Keep on joining Heaven to Earth and Earth to Heaven, Gloria Angel!

Cheering you on,
Xenia

Well, blessed Xenia, thanks for the support!

Of course, I personally feel strongly that the Bishop was right. He performed such a great deed. He was full of love and not judgment.

He was, of course, coming from his own level of consciousness, so he was in his truth. He had no ulterior motive. And so, instead of prison, he gave a man a new lease on life.

Yes, it is good that we don't lie, but to always tell the truth on principle can't always be right action.

Maybe it comes down to motive. And the Bishops's motive was love.

He must have been a great man in a world of many small men.

If someone had stolen something from my house, I don't think I could have said that I gave my valuables to the thief. I doubt I would have thought of it.

Of course, we don't know if this is what the Bishop would have done every time. Perhaps he saw something in Jean Valjean that everyone else had missed. Maybe the Bishop could do what he did, not even because of himself, but because of Jean Valjean himself, and ultimately, God.

I absolutely love your blog and I'm glad I came across it (I left a comment on your post about your red couch as i found you when I was googling "decorating red couch"). Then after I left that comment I decided to see what your blog was about and I think I will add you to my list of daily reads.

Glad I found you, sometimes "accidents" are the best kinds of things.

Beloved Tiffanie, I've heard there are no accidents!

I love it that you found the Godwriting blog when you googled "decorating red couch!"

Will you come to www.heavenletters.org as well? Let me know if you would like to subscribe. We'd love to send you Heavenletters!
