More incredible customer service

I can't believe it,  what amazingly wonderful customer service I had with Catherine at U.S. Cellular.

My daughter Lauren got a new cell phone and gave me her other one. As you know, I have a slow learning curve with technical things.

I would have stayed with the old phone I had because I knew how to do the basic things on it. The only thing is that the sound reproduction wasn't good, so I really had to make a change.

I went to the local US. Cellular place and got some instructions. There were two settings I wanted changed, and they suggested I call the company, and the company would make the changes for me.

Here are the two changes I needed:

When someone calls me, it takes me a while to get up and find the phone, and the ringing stops almost always before I can get to the phone in time. I wanted the phone to ring twice as long.

The second thing was that this phone goes to sleep on its own. I would be trying to do something, add a contact, let's say, and in a few seconds the whole screen would go dark, and I couldn't see what I was doing, and I lost what I had started.

It turns out that there were two things here with the second one: going to sleep and the display light going off.

As for extending the ringer time, apparently, the most it is programmed is to ring five times. That's all. That makes no sense to me, but that's how it is.

You know how I'm usually so stressed in dealing with technical things. After all, this cell phone is a computer, and computers have been known to do me in.

Catherine, the tech support person, like Chantha at Wells-Fargo, was beyond belief. She had me laughing, enjoying myself, and being able to follow her directions.  She was so good, she made me feel competent, and when I got off the phone, I was so good at making the changes, I was practically swaggering.

Catherine couldn't adjust what I wanted because this is my only phone, and, while I'm on the phone, it's not possible for her to make changes on it. But I could! And I did!

With her clear instructions, I was able to turn off the automatic going to sleep. I can press the button that makes the phone go to sleep. It doesn't have to do it automatically. And I was able to adjust the light display to have it stay on for up to two minutes. I can also turn the light display off on my own as well.

In order for me to make the changes, Catherine and I had to get off the phone. Each time Catherine called me back in five minutes to make sure that I had been successful. And each time I was. These adjustments really were simple! I could show you!

Catherine gave me so much confidence, I might even go back to the local store and show them how!

My technical success could be considered a miracle, would you agree?
