My living-room, past and present
When I moved into this apartment about a year ago, I had sold or given away about 95% of my possessions. I came with too much, nevertheless.
I was proud of myself that I pulled out things I had, such as this beautiful Thai skirt I had somehow kept, and I thumb-tacked it to the wall. It was beautiful, and it still is.
I would use this Thai skirt for decoration again, but I became tired of cloth hanging from my walls. Everything I had on the walls was cloth!
The beautiful cloth above the couch was a picture painted by orphans in India. I treasure it. The message is: "Joy is not in things, but in us." That's a message I need to read frequently.

I show this photo below so you get a glimpse of another cloth hanging on the wall. This is also beautiful. It was a real find. I have two such huge finished cloths They are thin see-through light gray cloth with small round circles embroidered on them. They're really wonderful, and yet I wanted something new!

To the rescue came Laura Weinberg, a local artist and Godwriter™.

Laura loaned me four divine paintings of hers. You will see how my whole decorating style has changed.
Laura's work is abstract and contemporary and youthful. It reflects more of what I am feeling now.
The photos do not quite do Laura's art justice. The colors of her paintings are more vibrant than they appear to be. The painting below is a very large rectangle, and it's now over the couch.
This painting is named Bright and Happy.

The following painting is further down on the same wall that the above painting is on. It is named Green Tones. In this photo, the colors came out more as they are in real life.

The following is on an opposite wall where one of the cloths once hung. This is called Yellow Tones.

And on the same wall as the yellow painting, Red Tones below is on the wall opposite the couch.

I gave Laura the two very large gray embroidered cloths, and she is going to paint on them. I can't wait to see what she does! While I am still here, I would like to hang them on the wide window-wall as drapes. What a burst of color you'll see when you enter the room! They may be up here for only four or five weeks before I leave for South Africa. I will be so glad to have them up even for such a short time. The bright colors are calming for me, and I love Laura's art so much.
I guess I want to make a dramatic statement, and, through Laura's art, I am!
These paintings are for sale. If you're interested, let me know!

Dearest Beloved Gloria, WOW! You are amazing. The blog looks and reads wonderful, thank you!!!! I have just started painting on your cloths, I want to get them to you as soon as possible. I am working one on top of the other. They are soaking wet right now. The smaller of the two appears done to me, but I won't know til it dries. Then I will peel that off and see how the large one looks, if I want to add something to it, or if the "bleed through" looks cool enough. The large one is too big for the queen size bed I work on! I'll be in touch and get to you as soon as they are done and dry.
Love, Laura
Gloria, it's about the message you say the Indian orphans painted. I think you may have inadvertently moved a word. If you lived in India you could wear your wallpaper. Well, I suppose you could wear it in Fairfield too as far as that goes. Might make another magazine cover.
Laura, how wonderful you are. And now everyone knows. I can imagine how beautiful the cloths are! What colors did you use? They will be utterly gorgeous covering my window wall!
Charles, that was quite an error I made, and I sure thank you for noticing. I had to read it over a few times before I saw my mistake! Hmm, maybe I still take too much pleasure in things!
Dearest Gloria,
Iam so pleased that you are enjoying the art and that it calms you. Makes me soooo happy!!
It looks like the two cloths will be ready tomorrow Sunday. Do you want me to stop over? Is 2:00 good for you or any time in the afternoon, let me know.
I want you to have them as soon as possible since you are leaving and this way you can enjoy them longer.
Much love, Laura
What a dear you are! 2 p.m. is perfect! I am enjoying the anticipation right now!!! Thank you!
I feel another blog coming up!
Beautiful! What a wonderful friend to loan you her artpieces. We both know the power of color to heal. Trained in Color Healing I use colored clothes on my clients when I do energy work. These paintings will uplift you each day, closer to God, as if Gloria you could get any closer! Much love, Kalena
Beloved Kalena, Laura is indeed a good friend.
I love color. Sometimes I wonder what I would do if I were in prison and did not have color surrounding me. Am I the only one who has such random thoughts?
Color is very important to me. I am impelled to use HTML in emails so I can use color here and there.
Pink and lavender used to be my favorite colors. Then orange headed all the rest for years. And now I seem to be most attracted to yellow, lemon yellow.
Thanks for being here, Kalena!
P.S. Did you see the curtains that Laura painted? Look at the blog called My New Curtains! Unbelievably gorgeous!
