Never take counsel of your fears

Andrew "Stonewall" Jackson said a wise thing when he said: "Never take counsel of your fears."

But here's what I want to tell you -- sometimes I have no fears! None at all! Fear doesn't even enter into it. Not always, but sometimes, fear simply isn't there!

Now that I will be going to South Africa for the winter and undoing my apartment, a few people have said something like this to me: "Aren't you brave to leave your safe life behind you and head off to South Africa? To give up your apartment and your security? I wouldn't be able to do it."

This is interesting to me. I am not usually someone who is good at deciding things, but there are those things I have no indecision about, none whatsoever. I like changing and doing something unexpected. For me, it would have been brave to stay just as I am where I am, no matter how nice and comfortable it might be.

I think I would choose adventure over what might be considered security any day.  Truly, it would be fearful for me to stay where I am as I am. Of course, a beautiful opportunity came up!

My two sisters lived in the same city all their lives. Hard for me to imagine. My sisters and I came to this world with very different paths to follow, not that I was aware ahead of time that it would be different for me.

Change must be a big thing in my life. A month or two ago, I was impelled to take off all the wall-hangings that I had tacked up less than a year ago. I loved them at the time, and, suddenly, I didn't want them decorating my room any more. I was someone else back then who chose a variety of cloth for my living-room walls, and I'm a different person now.

I have had some difficulty downloading from my camera to the computer or you would already have seen the beautiful new avant-garde paintings that are up! The artist, a Godwriter™ who loaned me her art, suggested that new batteries might help. I'll get on to it because these paintings are something to see!

Dear Gloria, as you express it, security, as we represent it, is the most insecure idea we'll ever have. God keeps saying that life is always on the move and so our security must also be always on the move.

I always hated to move. And yet, I did move at least ten times in my life and the last moving was from Montreal to Perth, Western Australia at the age of 58!

South Africa is not an easy country but it has a unique soul that one has to understand through its history. Anyway, moving is keeping young. And I'lll be just across from you, on the other side of Indian Ocean.

Yes, moving is keeping young! It will be nice to have you on the other side of the Indian Ocean! Or nearer!

Every country has a unique soul, do you think?

Do people from South Africa think the U.S. is not an easy country?!!!

Loving you,

Gloria

Moving? Why? To enjoy more.!! I enjoyed where ever I went. I visited many countries and have sweet memories of all.
I found all the plases I visited easy and beautiful. The people, the sights, the work. As a seaman I was happy. Now as a retiree I am happy.
Just back from a wonderful vacation all was fine. Weather, People, Scenery, Food, all was most enjoyable, now resting back at home which we call "Paradise" Gloria have a fantastic time in S.Africa. Being You, you will see the beauty only, like the childrens eyes. The whole world is full of beauty, GOD made It. Can it be anything else? Love to all Jack

Gloria what a wonderful experience for you!

I have moved so many times in my life, I lost count. Not necessarily to other countries, but different towns or provinces. It is always a new and great experience.

Your blogs will be so interesting! Not that they aren't now, however, I'm sure they will come from a different perspective.

Yes, Lynda, there will be so much to write about! There is the living of an experience, and there is the writing about it. Both delicious. How fortunate I am to have this blog where I can tell all!
