Shopping
We’ve all heard how good it is to remove clutter and make room for new things. I read a Feng Shui book that said closets should be no more than half full. For a long time, I've wanted to be more zen. Nevertheless, I still seem to hold on to things. You know what my closets look like.
I have an old bathrobe. I’ve had it for many many years. It’s very warm, and I have been glad to have it for its warmth. However, this bathrobe is not pretty. It is a dull winter white, the material is rough and bumpy, and the bathrobe looks grandmotherly. It also happens to be indestructible. Cars should be made so well. This bathrobe would undoubtedly give good service well into the next century. This bathrobe is so hardy, honestly, I think if you took a knife to it, it wouldn’t cut. I wouldn’t be surprised if the robe is bullet-proof.
My daughter and I were going to go shopping in the big city the other day. Before we left, I held up that old bathrobe and said to Lauren: "Should I give it away? To the Bargain Box or My Lucky Day? I really don’t like it."
My daughter said: "Well, you can always get rid of it."
And I said: "No, I really don’t like it. I’m done with it."
I left the bathrobe still flung over a chair, but in my mind I had already given it away.
I will back up a little. I do most of my shopping at resale shops, and I do find wonderful things. I wrote a blog earlier about the orange Beijo purse that sells for $120 which I found at the Iowa City Good Will for $1.38! I continue to use that purse, and I'm still getting compliments!
On this trip, guess what was the first thing I found at the Salvation Army in Iowa City? A gorgeous fluffy bathrobe that zips down the front, and it’s the most gorgeous blue, very youthful, and made of a very soft, so soft micro-fiber. It was as if the bathrobe had been waiting there for me. It looked brand new!
But the point of this blog is not to tell you what great bargains I find, but that it seems that we don’t even have to actually move out all our old stuff in order to be rewarded with gifts from the Universe. All we have to do is to decide to move it out, and we get rewarded instantly.
I vow to go through all my closets and cupboards and empty them. I always mean to. Maybe I really will!
How are you and clutter doing?

Hello Ms Wonderful,
I found a bathrobe such as the one you spoke of, on Clipper Street, here in San Francicso years ago that I suppose somebody threw out after a garage (garbage) sale. I still have it, haircolor stains adorn it, rips and tears and holes decorate it much like a Vivian Westwood rip-off. But it fulfills it's purpose and you can't beat the price. I often think of getting a snazzy new robe, but then look at the prices and am content with my old familiar hanging on the back of the bathroom door.
I did buy a new commuter cup (paid $5.99, which I deliberated for two weeks after spying it at Target,) and just love the message on the insert. It reads, "Gratitude leads to Joy which fills the Heart with Love and Peace." Plus it's done up in my favorite colors, pink and orange.
I'm so happy you got your fluffy blue robe, Gloria. Everyone needs a boost now and then, just for fun.
Love to you and all,
Peace out, Kim
Ms. Wonderful yourself!

My father told me that for a long time in the Hollywood film industry, the face of Jesus wasn't allowed to be portrayed by any mere mortal. I think Max von Sydow was the first actor Hollywood accepted as suitable
