The Windy City
Chicago, the Windy City, is BEAUTIFUL. Any way you slice it, the city is beautiful. From beautiful city plantings everywhere, Lake Michigan, sail boats, the public walking and bike paths to the PEOPLE -- Chicago is beautiful.
It is indeed windy. Sometimes it is so windy that I can't push or pull open the doors of Lauren's apartment building! On really windy days, the street Lauren lives on becomes a wind tunnel!
The friendliness of the people is amazing. When I got to Chicago, I had some heavy luggage filled with food for Lauren that you can't get in Chicago, believe it or not. One lady took the heaviest bag. Another lady who was older than I, also insisted on helping, and I gave her a light bag!
Now, in the city of Chicago itself, you find wonderful things like: On Chicago buses, there is a recording: "Please give up your seat to the handicapped, the elderly, and expectant mothers." Isn't it right that such consideration be encouraged? The Chicago Transit Authority is teaching this. There may be some people who never knew to do this.
Chicago is a dog-friendly city. There are many dog-friendly apartments. Lauren's is one. And then you see all over the city sidewalks doggie bowls filed with fresh water, and also hitching posts for dog owners to attach their dogs' leashes.
Don't you just love Chicago?

Friendly and dog like sounds like my city. I love beauty that is created in buildings parks etc. I have to go and see it sometime in summer though as I believe It can be very cold. The way you discribe Chicago everyone will want to visit Love to You and Lauren Jack
And if you visit Chicago, beloved Jack, all of us will rush to Chicago to see you!
Senora,
What a wonderful stay you had there. And what a blessing to have someone as special as Lauren to show you it's specialness.
Love, Dianita
You're right about Chicago Senora. You, me, Jack and Dianita must go have pizza there sometime...at that organic pizza place with the brick oven.
When I was in Chicago I met this kind man who gave me directions to the youth hostel I was staying in. As he walked with me for a while, he seemed to know all the people who lived on the street. He started having children when he was 13 and at the time of our conversation, he apparently had lots of children...so many that I was surprised he knew all their names without hesitation. He said goodbye as he made his way to the fried chicken place where his daughter works.
I also liked that big odd shaped silver blob in one of the parks. It's like a giant amusement-park mirror.
Did you go to that pier where all the tourists go? One could easily mistake the lake for an ocean.
Okay, when shall we meet in Chicago? I remember that pizza place very well.
I knew someone once -- many many years ago -- whose younger brother fathered a child at the age of thirteen. I wonder -- could this kind man be my friend's brother?
The silver blob is the bean, or officially Cloudgate in Millenium Park. And being near the lake is like having an ocean.
Ok, I'll go, no arm twisting needed. And we can go see the dolphins and pretend it's an ocean just beyond their swimming arena. We can even put salt in the lake just to make sure it's an ocean. Can Lauren be there? Can she take us shopping? I'll buy the pizza.
