What is your favorite-sounding word?

What word do you most like the sound of at this moment?

As I was typing this morning's Heavenletter™,  I typed these words:

All the variations in the world fall under the umbrella of Oneness.

I decided then and there that umbrella is my most favorite word. Each syllable is sounded so clearly.

UM BREL LA

In saying um, our lips smack. The m is held firmly.

In saying brel, the lips open and the tongue goes strongly to the top of the mouth, and the  l sound is held .

In saying la, the mouth is open and the tongue lightly touches the top of the mouth, and the syllable la isn't held but let go.

UM BREL LA

I never thought of all this before. Wow, a lot goes into language. How did we ever learn language, and at such an early age?!!!

And, I ask you, what word can possibly sound lovelier than the word umbrella?

Dear Gloria, try to pronounce the "r" of "brel" with the tip of your tongue touching the back of you upper teeth (like in spanish or italian). Feel the difference.

MaryPoppins. My mother from Nashville would have pronounced that MAAYreh.

Yes, the word umbrella can sound better as Normand describes! And, Charles, it must have been utterly charming how your mother pronounced it. A whole dictionary could be compiled of Southern pronunciations of words like umbrella that came into English from other languages! Could be a fun guest entry for this blog, Charles, maybe?

Fangipani, Mugwai and Mogli. All names!

Santhan, what is Fangipani? and Mugwai and Mogli? I know frangipani (but not fangipani). I grow them in my garden, oh that beautiful scent!

Typo! It's Frangipani, the one that grows in your garden. Mugwai is the creature that becomes a gremlin if you feed it chicken after midnight..from the movie Gremlins. Mogli is from The Jungle Book.

These are great sounding words. I want to read The Jungle Book again!

I like the word umbrella also Gloria, a good clear word. Funny enough, along those very lines is one of my favorite words,
umbelliferae.
For anyone who may not be familiar with it, here's a little description: Umbelliferae are plants having flowers in umbels, distinctive umbrella shaped blooms such as parsley, carrot, anise, caraway, celery, dill. The Umbelliferae family of mostly aromatic plants is commonly known as the carrot or parsley family.

Yes, this is a beautiful flowing sounding word! Leave it to you, with your green thumb, to know it! I love it! In a case like this, the longer the word, the better.
