Is it Oneness or not?
Here is a wonderful question that someone emailed to me sometime ago. I asked him to post his question on the Heavenletter Spiritual Community Forum, and, alas, he didn't.
I spend a lot of time writing back to people, requesting that they post. I still don't get why it's so hard sometimes for people to post when what they write is worth writing and serves us all.
Anyway, I thought this question was too good to pass up, so I'm posting it word for word here:
Hello, Gloria. I hope this message is reaching you.
First, I love the letters. Beautiful. My question is this: How can it be (or is it) that our true nature is this infinite void, or no-thing. A stillness and presence without any inherent emotion or Love. And yet, we so often characterize this stillness, this voice...as God.
At the same time, a few months ago, I heard a small voice in the middle of the night. It said: "God would like to meet you." I followed this into my heart, where I felt this small child-like joy.
I am confused: if we are all ONE infinite being/awareness. How can we call it God, as though it were separate, AND give it a personality on top of that?
Help!!!
With Love,

Okay, dear Blogreaders, you've been reading Heavenletters™ for quite a while. How would you answer this sincere person's question?

We are each an aspect of Godde, a piece of Godde. Picture an immense jigsaw puzzle. Each piece makes up the whole, and when put together completes the picture. When you look at the picture, you can see how each piece fits together. That bit around each piece is our individuality, the middle is our spiritual or piece of Godde self. When Godde speaks to us, it is from the higher self, the part of us that is always connected to the oneness even as we walk in the world in our individual "dirt suits."
Our bodies are great examples of how this work. Each cell and organ somehow glued together in all sorts of ways--some tall, some short, some thin, some large. Our blood flows and looks like a stream, yet is composed of individual cells that work together. Each cell in our body makes the whole, yet each stand on its own as well. Each cell has a role to play, just as we do.
The same holds true for everything on Earth. We are One with everything, totally connected to all of nature. Shared DNA and a responsibility to act in awareness of that Oneness. To know that perhaps we are a cell in the little toe or maybe a cell in the heart or in the brain. Whatever cell we are, we are essential to the Oneness. We are truly the "body" of Godde.
I think the problems is exactly in giving a personality to God and to ourselves.
Quoting from HEAVEN #2966:
"Your body is not you.
Your ego is not you.
Mind, body, ego are representations of you. They are like a course of study. The Invincible You needs no course of study. The InvincibleYou is ancient and wise and still yet new-born and ever fresh.
Call this true part of you Soul, or call it God. Whatever you call it or don't call it, it is you and it is I, this One unswerving Oneness where Truth stands inviolate and very aware of its Self.
We do not stand apart, beloveds. There is no distance between Us. Everything I know, you know, and I know Everything Everywhere, and so do you. So are you. Somewhere in the recesses of your heart lies this
burgeoning acorn of Truth. Will the real you stand up? Will the knowingness of you instead of the questioningness of you please stand up?"
From the same Heavenletter:
"All this I state is not what you can one day be. It is what you are right now, if only you could see. If only you could clear the cobwebs from in front of your eyes. If only you would rub your eyes and rub the supposed past away, you would, you really would, begin to see
yourself in your true colors.
Who needs to call on the angels when you are one? Call on yourself.
Who needs to pray to God when it is yourself you pray to?
Who needs to be at odds with Himself?
Who needs to pretend anything when you are Everything?
You are the Wholeness you have wanted and sought.
You are Being, the same Being that I AM.
We are truly indelibly One. Why won't you believe Me?"
So be it!
Beautiful beautiful responses, Pam and Paula. I love how you share your hearts and minds here.
I have a few things to say, and then a confession! There is so much I want to say that I will make it a blog entry for tomorrow.
Pondering (once again) the question what I would answer when asked about the nature of "this infinite void" and God's "personality", I realize I don't know what to say. But Heavenletters themselves give us a thousand clues for any such question. Mind may not know how to put them together to make a picture. Heart does over time. Just go on reading Heavenletters.
Here's a few of what I feel are clues.
"The reason that loneliness is so unhappy for you is that, deep in your heart, you know that aloneness and its counterpart loneliness are not the truth and that Oneness is. Oneness is not lonely or isolated. Oneness is fullness of love and camaraderie. It is a singular gift." (Heaven #1447)
"Oneness stands alone, but is not lonely. It is crowds that are lonely. Imagined apartness from Oneness is lonely. Apartness and loneliness can only be imagined.
"You live in an imaginary world, beloveds. It is your mind that wanders. Your heart stays still. Of course it does. Your heart is One with Mine, and Mine is One with yours. Oh, My beloved Self, We sink into Oneness. Or We rise. Well, we can do neither, because We stay right where We are." (Heaven #1807)
"Funny, now that I am the Only One, I no longer feel lonely. I am good enough for Me." (Heaven #2844 & 2845)
For the personality of God, it's Sutra #574 about a baby bottle called Baba. So wonderful! Spectacular!
I think he posted this question on the forum,Gloria, as I well remember having already read it and someways even tried to answer.
I would laugh and pat him/her on the head.
