Moon over the Indian Ocean

Someone mentioned that I haven't shown photos of where I'm staying at Uncle Arnand's beach house. A most deluxe beach house, I must add.

Today I start with some of the outdoor scenes.

The Beach House

There is a beautiful balcony that surrounds three sides of the house. The photo above is of a round stone table and two curved benches. In the hot summer, Heaven Admin and I often eat out there.

Nearby is the clothes line. That's a shirt of Heaven Admin's he hung there.

Now, this following pic, I should offer a prize to the blogreader who guesses what it is. It's not some sliding path you walk down or up.

The Beach House

Look at the top part of this mystery photo. Do you see the plug? This is the inside of the wash tub where I love to wash clothes by hand. Do you see the scrubbing part that looks like stairs or a road? One of my most favorite things is this wash tub. Also being able to hang clothes outside in the fresh air is Heaven. In so many places, this is not allowed.

Along the driveway side of the house is a long and tall retaining stone wall. The empty places are filled with growing things that Heaven Admin planted. Note this is a vertical view:

Below is arugala that Heaven Admin planted. We have lots of it. And wonderful herbs! Growing things make me very happy. Oh, by the way, in South Africa, arugala is called rocket. Or, I could just as well say that, in the U.S. rocket is called arugula! This is most delicious rocket. I love it in salads or just to nibble on. Maybe I'm a rabbit.

Now here is a lobelia plant I planted. It is thriving. We need flowers, don't we?

I have more photos to show you. This is enough for now. Except for one splendid one that Heaven Admin took last night. Orange moon over the Indian Ocean.

The pictures are wonderful. I am getting a better feel for the house where you are living.

Very healthy looking arugula/rocket plant! I haven't had much luck growing it myself but we do grow it at Diamond's Waldorf School in the sustainable garden, which is out of season now and will be replanted in January. I buy it by the bag at Trader Joe's and mix it with baby spinach; the rest of the salad is red peppers, a bit of carrot, maybe celery and whatever else I may have in the salad bin, with Trader Joe's dried cranberries and spicy-hot pecans sprinkled on top. It is the most amazing combination for a salad. Yum!

Carol, are you related to Candida Maurer of Iowa City?

No relation. I am Maurer by marriage and I believe they all came from a specific area in Germany.
