A Day in the Life

I am content with a quiet serene life. I am quite happy doing Heaven work (play) all day. You must know I love the forum and the blog and the beautiful people who share themselves and their love there. Very rarely do I feel a need to get out of the house, go somewhere. The Farmer’s Market on Saturday mornings is a great outing, and a friend and I often take two-mile walks. A good movie on TV every now and then, and my life is complete. (Of course, it's different when I am on a road trip.)

Now I have to get serious about moving everything out of my house. I keep moving things around but not getting very far. In fact, when you look inside my house, it gets worse and worse. More piles of things to sort, more decisions to make, etc.

A few friends have come over to have a first chance at all my beautiful possessions. (In a way, it's like I've passed away!!!)

Each friend is its own story and its own involvement. I’ll begin with a dear friend Florence. She is a peach.

Florence and I have known each other forever, well, ever since her daughters were little. They are now grown and married. Florence is also the lady who started My Lucky Day, the famous resale shop here in Fairfield, Iowa. In a way, she is responsible for most of the chatskes I have. Of course, she was always very good to me. She always was to everyone.

Florence has had several back surgeries, spent many years in great pain, now has arthritis and walks with a cane. Through it all, she has been absolutely amazing. Always a smile. She never let what she was going through interfere with her good nature. Just the sort of person you want to help.

As you can imagine, Florence is someone who is always helping others, and she has sometimes had tales to tell when it didn’t work out the way it was meant to. Some complication would arise that she didn’t have control over, and she was later sorry she had ever offered -- have you ever had that happen too?

Florence bought my two dressers, some small tables, some great woven baskets, some fabulous good-sized angels, and more -- a couple hundred dollars worth! I packed her car and my daughter’s car, and I transported everything except for the two dressers.

Florence arranged for some movers to pick up the dressers. They were going to charge her $40. I thought that was too much. Florence lives just a few blocks away from me. I arranged with someone to charge her only $20. Of course, I was going to be the second person to help carry the furniture.

Let me note that one of these dressers was antique pine that had come with me from Massachusetts. The drawers were joined together with a sort of jig saw pattern that holds the panels of the drawers tight. No nails.

Immediately, I saw that this moving guy was rough with things. He didn’t particularly want my help, and he thought it was all right to bang the chests down the steps. I had to practically scream to make him stop.

After the basic chests were in his little truck, he threw the drawers in on top.

When we got to Florence’s apartment, (Florence, who was at work, had left her door unlocked for us) this great mover announced that we had only three drawers for the pine chest instead of four.

“One of them must have fallen out,

Gloria you are unique. My day as always was beautiful and I finished painting the house. will send photo when they are in the computer. I would have borrowed or hired a trailer and done the shifting myself. It took me a while to understand what Dressers where in the first instant I read it as dresses. and I asked why not take the dresses over and $40- to deliver 2 dresses a block away and you started talking about the furniture movers that I read it again and and realized dressers are what we call a cupboard or chest of draws. why do the Americans not speak English? have a nice day love light and heaps of fun Jack

I beg your pardon, dear Jack, we Americans also say chest of drawers! I think that a chest of drawers is taller than a dresser, and these were really dressers!

Can't wait to see your paint job! It's really best when you can do things yourself, isn't it?

May we all have many more beautiful days with love and light and heaps of fun.

Dear Gloria-

Remember I said you should call me if you need some help? Why didn't u? Where did u find that great mover guy anyway? I have college kids here that I can get to help with stuff like that. Judy

Oh, dear Judy, how I wish I had thought of you! This guy was doing some work for a neighbor, and he had a truck!

I have thought and thought of you and your generous offer to help. I would love your help. I justhaven't known what you could do while I am so disorganized.

Maybe you have ideas of what you would like to do? Meanwhile, I will think of things, even little things, that could add up to a great deal of help. I'll make a list.

There is a lady who has reserved a lot of things, a chest of drawers and another dresser, two oval mirrors, and more. As soon as those things are moved out, I will have more space and, hopefully, I too will be clearer.

Someone is coming over today to see about my red couch.
The more that gets out, the easier it will be to deal with what is here.

From now on, I really am going to be Zen.

Thank you so much, Judy. When is a good time for you?

With love and blessings,

Gloria

Hello, Dear One:

Well, you finally were succesful in garnering a write-up from me for your blog! When I read most of the things you wrote about me, I thought, who is this person Gloria writes about.

Regarding the drawer, whatever happens with it is perfect. I put a blanket in the drawer space and last night when the temperature dropped, I was able to reach in and grab the blanket without opening the drawer! Everything and every situation has its favors!

I will say, what you wrote about the food is true! I love to cook organic, I love the presentation and a dramatic table and most of all, I love enlightened company like you, dear heart. I shall miss you so! Always, when I am cooking special treats, I will think of you. You have a keen sense of appreciation that makes everyone want to exert special energy in your direction.

Life is full of blessings, begging to be noticed. Where our attention is, is what is served up to us. How much easier it is to think of an uplifting friend than a broken drawer. I love you, dear heart, and wish you many blessings on your journey.

I recently read a story from a Navajo collection of myths and tales. An old Grandfather Navajo told his grandson, referring to himself, that he had two wolves deep inside his body. One wolf was jealous, dishonest, mean and horrible to be around. The other wolf was kind, loving, generous and benevolent. The two wolves warred against each other constantly. The Grandson asked, "Grandfather, Which wolf will win?" And the Grandfather said, "The one that I feed!"

Much love and joy,
Florence
