The Litigators by John Grisham
This book is so much greater than you would at first think. Yes, it is a lawyer story, and it is written by a lawyer, yet it is more than that. I loved every minute of this book -- AND I grew from it.
Two of the main characters in a boutique law firm are unabashedly unethical. They lie, cheat, and steal if they can. In addition, they are not very good lawyers. When they get a real case, and one that is simple, they can't even win it. Heartbroken vengeful clients chase after these two clowns wanting their money back and vengeance.
The legal secretary they employ eats yogurt and files her nails and turns away prospective clients whose type of case would mean too much work for her. She sends away real estate clients, for instance. She isn't exactly what you could call a worker.
The thing is: these characters are collosal! They are believable, and, what's unbelievable is that you like them and you hope they make it.
Enter a real hero, a man with ethics and a man with heart. He goes more than the extra mile. He befriends the two clowns and saves the day for many. He is simply a good man. I wanted to hug him. What a guy.
This book shows the beauty of a full heart and doing the right thing even when you're the only one.
